Dr. Muriel Charles

Originally from Ottawa, Ontario, Dr. Charles is fully bilingual and passionate about making a difference in the lives of her patients through preventative medicine. She brings over 15 years of clinical experience to the Best You clinic, including just under 3 years as an Emergency Medical Physician at the Montfort Hospital, where she assisted patients in both English and French. Her empathy and easy-going nature contribute to her skill in communicating information to her patients and their families with sensitivity and compassion.

In working with the Best You clinic, her goal is to sensitize patients and the community to the effects of sun exposure, cosmetic treatments and early detection. Dr. Charles attended medical school with Dr. Akyurekli in Ottawa, and has since trained with him in Owen Sound, where she worked with laser and injection procedures including Botox, as well as Schlerotherapy. She is a member of the American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine, and has received training in advanced Botox and dermal fillers.

Specializing in family medicine since 1995, and more recently occupational health and safety, Dr. Charles believes strongly in increasing awareness on various medical issues through education, communication, and action. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and Honours Physiology from the University of Ottawa in 1989, where she also received her Doctorate in Medicine. Moving to Toronto, she completed a residency in Family Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital in 1995. She then continued on to complete an emergency family medicine residency program through Queen’s University in 1998.

Her passion for preventative medicine, and leading an active lifestyle, are some of the reasons that she participates annually in the Bike for Heart Marathon to raise funds for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. An avid gardener, Dr. Charles prides herself in growing irises and creating a beautiful garden every spring. When not with patients, she spends her time with her two daughters, cooking and hiking in the Gatineau Hills.
